Fear the law! Or not... This picture is a screenshot from one of the Herbie movies (Herbie goes bananas). So it might be a fake and not a genuine police car.
If I had the money, I would give him 'carte blanche' in my new home. Needless to say I ain't got the money. Philippe Starck, what could I say about him?... He is a designer, a clever designer. I like most of his designs, smooth lines, smooth materials. Always to the point... and he drives a 181! Obviously... http://www.germancarblog.com
Well, the Danish army used quiet a few 181s. I once posted a picture of such a car with the typical Danish luggagerack which was added on those cars. In brotherhood with a vw bug, the Jagtvogn (= Hunting vehicle) is getting ready for an easy transport.
Found this picture on the internet. Probably a very early 181 is shown here, maybe on the 1969 Frankfurt car exposition, where the VW 181 was introduced at the audience? Notice the shortened rib above the fender, on the front quarter. Same lenght as on the prototype series.
These kind of pictures are rare. It is difficult to find one featering a vw 181 in service. The picture is dated 1977 and we can see some soldiers from the Rocket artillery battalion "Delmenhorst", standing in front of their Honest John. The vw 181 has the green flag in its bracket, ready for convoy driving.
